In this workshop, you will play a range of games and exercises to help you become more playful. Over the course you will discover a range of theatrical principles to help you develop as a performer including, complicity, fixed point, major-minor and working with your impulses. This workshop will be full of fun and laughter and in this supportive atmosphere you will take steps forward.

Le Jeu is FUNdamental in all Philippe Gaulier actor training.

About Philippe Gaulier

Philippe Gaulier is one of the most influential and revolutionary masters in the realm of performance training. His famous teaching philosophy lies within “Le Jeu” (play), which emphasises the pleasure of an actor. Philippe believes that “play” and “theatre” are interwoven concepts. At the same time, he also emphasises elements such as “complicite”, “fixed point”, designation of “major” and “minor” roles, and more. He is strict, unrelenting and harsh, yet he inspires continuous laughter in class due to his unconventional sense of humour. With his sharp and incisive observations, actors find themselves unable to conceal their flaws in his presence, and surrender to his bid to excavate their unique “beauty”.
Philippe’s students hail from all over the world, including numerous international artistes such as: Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson, Hollywood actress Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kathryn Hunter of “Harry Potter” fame, Hong Kong Film Awards winner Anthony Wong, Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards Best Supporting Actress Yeo Yann Yann and many more. His theatre philosophy has been compiled into a book entitled My Thoughts on Theatre (previously titled Tormentor).

The most important aspect of an arts education for a child is its integration within culture itself. Culture sets forth the foundation on which a country is built upon: its direction, pathways and values. The education of arts and culture very much emphasizes the development of character.
