Descendants of the Eunuch Admiral
Descendants of the Eunuch Admiral was written by Kuo Pao Kun, and details the adventures of the Zheng He, the eunuch explorer.
To mark The Theatre Practice’s 45th anniversary, Resident Director Kuo Jing Hong offers a kinetic interpretation to this classic text. In Kuo’s interpretation, she focuses on the “eunuch-fixation” of the urban dweller: the lack of a strong unique culture to identify with, and the inner struggle in grappling with the modern sense of ambivalence. Hence, performers offer their bodies as the sites upon which issues such as cultural erosion and societal castration can finally, manifest.
