Menage a 13

Ménage à trois? No thanks, it’s rather passé and unexciting really, with only just three…

The Theatre Practice is proud to present its Lunar New Year production and invite you to a Ménage à 13!

Did you say 13? Relax… it’s really not that kinky. Just 4 people in 13 positions. Sounds complicated? You bet.

Loud and brassy politician Cai Liu Mu is having a scandalous affair with the delectable Miss Ye, behind the back of his wife, celebrity talkshow host Hua Jie, who noses endlessly into other people’s lives. And let’s not forget their darling daughter Angie, the dreamy teenager who believes that everything can be solved by L-O-V-E.

In an all too familiar scenario of freakish family ties and extramarital entanglement, are we all simply looking to love and be loved? Follow the laughter and tears of these vagrant souls as they navigate this quagmire of entanglements in their singular search for love.

Ménage à 13 subverts all convention of comedy and tragedy with its unique brand of hearty sufferance as they examine our everyday relationships and the societal roles that define us.

Featuring a script by acclaimed playwright Stan Lai (Performance Workshop, Taiwan) and directed by The Theatre Practice’s Co-Artistic Director Wu Xi, Ménage à 13 promises to be a tragi-comedy is a hilarious absurd comedy with a deep emotional core.

Ménage à 13 was presented as part of Esplanade’s Huayi- Chinese Festival of The Arts. Ménage à 13 received a Best Actress nomination at the Life! Theatre Awards for Su Chun Ying.
