Tracing the Sunrise

In 1987, Taiwanese artist and U-Theatre founder Liu Jing-Min introduced Practice to training exercises based on the techniques of Polish dramatist Jerzy Grotowski. Theatre practitioners would gather for outdoor training during sunrise and sunset, using the change in environment to awaken different senses within themselves. This shifting emphasis to actors’ corporalities significantly influenced Practice’s theatre-making during this period. Reuniting for a training session more than 30 years later, join these very same performers as they revisit their artistic roots and reconnect with each other.

Mdm Goh’s Class

Choreographer, educator and dance pioneer Goh Lay Kuan returns to the studio to teach her first class in decades. Goh has nurtured generations of dancers through her classes at Practice, while her works have lay the foundations of Singapore modern dance.
Practice Yoga

Beyond improving flexibility and physical strength, yoga has often been used by many theatre practitioners as a way to train focus and awareness.
After leaving her full-time job at Practice to become a yoga teacher in 2014, Shimin has returned many Tuesday mornings since to conduct classes. Kickstart Sunday with a Practice yoga class experience from your home as you join Shimin and her longtime Practice students for a session of 55 sun salutations.
Equipment needed: yoga mat or towel, yoga block (if available)
No registration needed; join the session via a Zoom meeting link provided on the Facebook livestream during the event.
Captain's Ball

As Practice Yoga is running, another group of Jian Rens will be dialling in from Labrador Park with another rehearsal favourite… Captain’s Ball!
While the game (and its Practice-only variation of “captain’s ball on knees”) is used as a warm-up, it is also part of another beloved Practice ritual! On the very last day of rehearsals, the cast would head to Labrador Park to bond over a picnic and several rounds of ultra-competitive Captain’s Ball. How intense can a game of Captain’s Ball get? Come see for yourself!

Executed by a well-rehearsed team of stage crew, the choreography of scene changes can create amazing transformations that happen in the blink of an eye. While you usually see them as shadowy blurs on stage, we’re turning on the houselights to reveal these hidden ninjas of the theatre. Gathering production crew members from the past 15 years, let them show you how they play – from “wagon choreography” to backstage shennanigans.

Online Recess Time is an interactive gathering on Zoom. Guest chefs, known as Makan Masters, demonstrate how to prepare their favourite home-cooked dishes while sharing their personal stories through food.
Meet Audrey and Yvette, two theater practitioners behind JLZDE. Meaning “Cooked At Home”, the brand new instagram eatery was conceived during the circuit breaker and features a menu of homecooked glutinious rice dishes – all approved by their ah mas! They’ll share stories from the theatre and how they transformed their passion for cooking into a business. Plus, enjoy an exclusive cooking demonstration for one of their best-selling dishes…
